I really *hate* hate pages.

For the last coupla weeks I've been surfing the net for Sailor Moon sites, to find some info I could use for a research paper. And it seems stupid to me...Anti pages, anti-anti...anti-anti-anti.....etc. Not to mention all the pages devoted exclusively to hating DiC. IMHO, pages like these aren't any better than pages devoted to hating African-Americans, people of non-Christianity religions, or whatever. Why waste your time building a whole WEBPAGE about a single thing that you hate? O_o;; I don't understand it at all. I mean...there's so many CONSTRUCTIVE things you could do w/ all that time you spent HTMLing your hate pages! For instance, HTMLing pages about something you *like*...

(I posted this to the Windor "Ye Olde Tavern" messageboard today. If you're looking for a place to roleplay, please don't pass Windor by just because I'm leaving it. It's a great place with wonderful people.)
Well, as you can probably tell if you've been keeping up with the wedding RP on the message board, I am leaving Windor. It's a decision I've been considering a long time, and though my reasons probably aren't readily apparent-- heck, I know they aren't-- I do have them. Those of you who are newer around here might not know me, but I've been around since nearly the beginning of the whole Wendor/Windor thing (or so I like to think ^_~). As silly as it sounds, as much as one can have a home on the Internet, Windor has been my home for nearly 3 years. I've had some great times here; made lots of friends and wonderful memories...another silly thought, ne? But true nonetheless.

I'd like to thank all the people who've chatted with, roleplayed with, and tolerated (^_^) me during my time here. Thank you Dark Angel, Bjorn, Trunks, Pink, Aaron, Shadow, Jas, Kitra, Tefari, Teron, Magus, Wred...and I absolutely know I've forgotten people, you've all been so wonderful. There are also many not on this list who don't come to Windor any more, and I thank you in your absence anyway. Thanks to Razynne and Magi for reviving the Kingdom...and thank you, Ranagan. You work too hard for us. =0)

In closing I would like to offer a short story, written more OOC than IC... I apologize for any subtle preachiness I may have let slip in. This is my last post to this board, so maybe you'll humor me.

***

Once upon a time there lived a girl, of innocent heart and honorable mind, who wandered the worlds in search of her past. She made many friends, as well as enemies, and visited strange and wondrous places. She saw kingdoms rise and fall; she saw love and fellowship; she saw war and death and hatred and resentment. In the end, she discovered that unity and forgiveness could triumph, if given a chance. With her lessons learned, she departed to seek new and untested frontiers, to live life to the fullest and die with a grin on her face. But no matter how far she traveled, she knew that her heart and soul would always rest in that magical place called Windor.

***

May all your adventures end in triumph, my friends. Sayonara.

Lady Marrah

And incidentally...for once, the black wind isn't howling.

Ever tried your hand at an MST? MST (or MST3K) is an acronym for Mystery Science Theater 3000, a hilarious show in which people (and robots) poke fun at bad movies by inserting "riffs" (funny comments) in between the lines. You can MST just about anything: a bad fanfic, a flame... As long as it's badly written *grin* I've tried it recently, and found it quite fun.

Well, this has nothing to do with the above thought...
This coming school year will be my freshman year of high school. It's kind of a scary thought. Before now, I've been perfectly dependent on my parents for just about everything...but now, I'm taking my first step toward the time when I'll be completely on my own. It's weird to think about. But I'm sure I'll be OK, as long as I have a computer with internet access. j/k ^_~

What is so wrong with the DiC dub of Sailor Moon? I agree wholeheartedly that the name changes and omission of Japanese cultural references is pretty stupid (if they'd left the culture stuff in, instead of the stupid "Sailor Says" they could have had "Culture Shock" or something for their obligatory educational segment, and explained all those unfamiliar things), but a lot of the other editing (the gay stuff, people hitting other people, Rei's pervert grandpa) was necessary for putting it on mainstream American television. If they'd put out the unedited version, outraged American parents and senators everywhere would have risen up and done what they do best: censor and ban stuff completely. :P But instead of focusing on what they changed, let's think about what they did right--they brought anime to a mainstream audience and made it popular (yes, little girls count!!), and...uhh... Well, the soundtrack's cool ^^ It's not as good as the Japanese soundtrack, but at least I can sing songs from it and know what the heck I'm saying...

You know what they should have done? Sold the show to ADV or Software Sculptors or somebody like that and release it the way anime normally gets released, uncensored and on video. :P

It just occurred to me that the Icy Brian's RPG Fanfic Page community has gotten kind of cutthroat. The really good fics are endlessly praised, the really bad fics are endlessly mocked, and everything in between is almost completely ignored. As one of those "in-between" writers (although I must be doing something right to have gotten into the Legion of Fantasy--but that's a rant for another time), I feel I must speak out for all of us. Don't ignore our stories! We might not be the best, but we're better than Lavos Core and Kyle Miller! Besides, if you don't read our stories, what excuse are you going to have to visit the Fanfic Page with all the excellent fics under your belts? Give a so-called "mediocre" fic a try. You might just find a diamond in the rough.

That brings to mind something else that irks me. Comment, would you!? If you read someone's story, TELL THEM WHAT YOU THOUGHT ABOUT IT!!! You have no idea how it makes someone's day to see that their days (or weeks or months or years, often!) of hard work were not for nothing! Even (constructive) criticism is great. I know several authors of fanfics who were ready to give up completely, but letters from people who enjoyed their stories inspired them to finish their projects and move on to new and even better works. So, comment!
